Nigel Mansell dominated the weekend in his Williams-Renault, achieving the grand slam, taking pole position, setting the fastest lap, race win. Leading every lap to win comfortably.
His teammate Riccardo Patrese finished second, securing a dominant 1–2 for Williams, while Ayrton Senna took third for McLaren.
The race was notable for showcasing the clear performance advantage of the Williams FW14B and its active suspension system.
Michael Schumacher’s stepped up for his first full season opener as a Benetton driver. He qualified 7th and finished 4th.
