Fernando Alonso took the lead early. Multiple safety cars were triggered by crashes and incidents, including retirements for Felipe Massa, Christian Klien, and Michael Schumacher, who hit the wall at Turn 6.
Mark Webber retired from a strong position with gearbox failure, ending local hopes. Kimi Räikkönen ran consistently in second, while Ralf Schumacher moved up into podium contention as others dropped out.
Jenson Button’s Honda suffered an engine failure on the last lap, meters from the finish line.
Dispite all the action, Alonso controlled the race throughout, securing his second win of the season ahead of Kimi Räikkönen, with Ralf Schumacher finishing third for Toyota.
