  • The 1994 British Grand Prix at Silverstone was dramatic before the race had even begun. Damon Hill took pole for Williams, while Michael Schumacher was penalised for overtaking Hill on the formation lap.

Schumacher failed to serve the stop-go penalty within the required time, leading to a black flag that Benetton initially ignored, triggering significant controversy. After finally taking the penalty, Schumacher recovered to finish second on the road but was later disqualified, giving Hill a vital home victory.

Jean Alesi and Mika Häkkinen completed the podium. The event became a major flashpoint in the fiercely contested 1994 championship.
